I am delighted that you are interested in music lessons for your child. I hope the following information answers any questions you may have, but if you require further information, please don’t hesitate to ask. If you are interested please do fill in the form attached and return it to me at school or via the email address above.

What instrumental lessons are available in school?

We offer group lessons on classical guitar, ukulele, recorder (or penny whistle), flute, violin, keyboard/piano and voice.

What do I do if the instrument my child wants to learn isn’t on the list?

Contact Croydon Music and Arts (see below) and ask if they can provide lessons, or ask me for a suggested teacher. If your child learns a musical instrument outside school, please do keep me informed, so they can join the orchestra and have class music work set at an appropriate level.

When will lessons take place?

Lessons will take place during the school day. Each child will be given a timetable, and a copy of this will always be available for pupils to consult on the music room door.

Do I need to provide an instrument?

Yes. If you are considering buying an instrument, please do ask me for

advice as it is easy to spend a lot of money and still buy the wrong

thing! Many music shops offer hire or instalment payment schemes, so do discuss options with me before making your purchase.

What if I can’t afford a new instrument?

Croydon Music and Arts may be able to offer you a place on their "Endangered Species" scheme. In this scheme, you are able to use one of their instruments and have lessons through them, usually on a Saturday morning. They will choose an instrument for you and it may be an unusual one, such as oboe, bassoon or French horn. You can contact them to discuss this by ‘phoning 020 8681 0909 or emailing

How much will it cost?

Group lessons cost £60 per term for ten lessons, payable in advance. If your child is eligible for Pupil Premium, then there is a reduced rate of £22 per term. Once your child has been given a date to start, I will let you know what tutor book you will need to buy. Music tutor books usually cost between £6 and £12 and, depending on how quickly your child progresses, should last at least 2 terms.

How do I sign up?

Fill in the form below, return it to me and your child will be placed on the waiting list. As soon as a space becomes available, I will contact you to let you know how to proceed.
