How you can help your child
Because of the importance of accuracy of punctuation and grammar, we have a specific focus on:
1. Proof-reading sentences to check for sense and correct punctuation - including the use of apostrophes to indicate possession.
2. Correct use of homophones (e.g. they’re, their and there).
3. Any activities which help children develop their understanding of vocabulary: dictionary races, Games such as "Call my Bluff."
Home Reading Practice
It is important for your child to become an experienced reader of a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts.
While popular books, such as ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’, ‘Dork Diaries’ and ‘Flower Fairy’ series are relaxing and easy to read, we encourage our pupils to choose more demanding books for their daily home-reading tasks. They need to build up their reading stamina in order to tackle the harder texts they need to analyse in Years 5 and 6.
