8th February 2019

Dear Reception Parents and Carers,

Next week we will continue our topic ‘Gathering. The children will be learning about the joy of gathering to listen to God’s Word. We will be talking to the children about what the scriptures tell us about Jesus. Talk to your child at home about how God is always with us wherever we go.

Communication, Language and Literacy

Next week we will continue to sequence the story ‘The Three Little Pigs’.

The children will use the story maps they have made to retell the story to their friends.

We will be talking about Valentine’s Day and encouraging the children to understand why it is important to tell the people close to them that they are special.  The children will be making their own cards for the people they love.

We will be learning the sounds: ‘igh’, ‘oo’, ‘ar’, ‘or’

We will be introducing the tricky words ‘was’ and ‘my’

At Home

Ask your child to retell the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’

Maths Development

Next week we will continue to add two single digit numbers together to find the total.  We have started by adding 1 to numbers up to 10.  Some children are ready to move on to adding 2.  We will be using counting objects to help us solve simple addition problems.

E.g. I have 3 pencils and you have 1. How many have we got altogether?

At home:
See if your child can add 2 more toys when they are playing.

General Information

  • If you have any empty boxes, kitchen rolls, yoghurt pots etc please can you bring them in for the children to use at the creative table.
  • Please ensure that your child has their water bottle in school every day so they can help themselves to a drink when they feel thirsty.
  • If you follow this link on YouTube you will see how to pronounce the phase 2 and 3 letter sounds:

Many thanks the Reception team
