Dear Parents/Carers,
As we are still in Eastertide, we are learning about the joy of the risen Lord and what this means for us. We have been learning about how the women went to the tomb and spread the message that Jesus is alive.
We are in the month of May and May is devoted to Mary the mother of Jesus.
Home learning: Please take some time to pray together the Hail Mary with your child.

aw words paw, jaw, law, lawn, claw, draw, straw, yawn, crawl, jigsaw High frequency words, some of which are not phonetic and just have to be learnt by sight: they, there, was, could, little, children Please write a sentence for each word with a capital letter and full stop. Add a conjunction such as ‘and’ ‘because’ ‘or’ ‘so’ ‘but.’ We are focussing on writing sentences with detail by adding adjectives. Focus on neat handwriting too. When Mae Jemison was a little child she dreamt of going up to space and she worked very hard in school to make her dream come true!

We will be reading this book which is related to Space. This week we have learning about other famous astronauts such as Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison. Mae Jemison is an American engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut. She became the first African-American woman to travel into space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992. We have also introduced the children to Non-Fiction books. We have looked at the features of Non-Fiction books which are: They are factual Photographs instead of illustrations Contents page Glossary Page Index Page Sub-headings Diagrams Captions
Home Learning: Please listen to your child practise their reading with the colour coded book they bring home. As we near the end of the year we aim for the children to become proficient readers with good comprehension skills to enter into the Juniors. Purple Mash has an activity that we have asked your children to do on the Solar System and the Planets. There are links to learn more about the Solar System and are worth looking at. |
Maths: We are continuing to learn about Measurement and next week we will be learning about volume and capacity. We will learn about the measurements that liquids are measured in which is Litres and Millilitres.
