Dear parents/carers,

We have rolled into this new term as though we had never been away!

As we are in the season of Eastertide, we wish you a Happy Easter and joy in the risen Lord.

It is lovely to see the children once again and raring to go in our last and final term!  Below are the new topics that we will be covering.

Religious Education

Topic: Spread the Word.

For the next four weeks, we will be learning about the promise that Jesus gave to his Disciples before he would ascend back to His Father in Heaven.  He told them that he would send a friend to be with them, the Holy Spirit.  We will learn about the Holy Spirit and the gifts that the Spirit imparts.

Phonics

The graphemes we are focussing on are:

‘ch’ as in touch and ‘sh’ as in fresh

Home Learning: Practise these spellings and sentences for a test.

Literacy and Art:

We have begun a new topic which primarily is learning about Non-fiction books, Information books.  We will be learning about these through the topic of Space.  We introduced the topic through ‘a spaceship crash in the playground’ and then through the story of Beegu by Alexis Deacon. This book is beautifully illustrated and by looking at the pictures, we are learning how the artist uses these to evoke the feelings of the reader.

Home learning:

To look at the illustrations and imagine what the character may be thinking/feeling by the depiction of her body language.

Please listen to your child practise their reading with the colour coded book they bring home. As we near the end of the year we aim for the children to become proficient readers with good comprehension skills to enter into the Juniors.

For your Diary:

Year 2 will be attending the Parish Mass at 10.00am.

St Francis: 29th April

St Martin: 13th May

Have a lovey restful weekend, the Year 2 Team.

Maths

Division:

We have been learning about halving and doubling of numbers.  Whilst we have been learning to do this practically with apparatus, the children also need to learn to this mentally.  We have also been leaning how to divide by 10.

Home Learning:

Please practise doubling and haling of numbers.

For example 2 doubled is 4

11 doubled is 22.  You can progress to larger numbers as your child becomes more proficient.

Then do the same with halves of given numbers.

A worksheet on dividing by 10.
