Newsletter no. 27
Friday 17th April
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break with your families. We were very lucky with the weather for our last week of the break, being able to get outside in the sunshine really helped the soul.
St Bernadette Class Assembly
Next week St Bernadette Class will be doing their class assembly for the school and their parents.
Parents of St Bernadette class are invited to join the assembly on:
Wednesday 22nd April at 9.15am in the school hall.
We look forward to seeing you there.
Wellbeing
'We have been very lucky to have Elli working in our school every Wednesday. Elli is an Educational Wellbeing Practitioner and is available to offer support to you, our families. She can support with strategies for encouraging positive behaviour and managing negative behaviours; managing anxiety and promoting wellbeing in parents and children plus other areas too.
Some of our families have just completed a short course about managing common behaviour difficulties and Year 2 have completed sessions on caring friendship.
Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with them sharing that they had felt supported, learnt new strategies to try at home and felt more confident in their ability to deal with challenging behaviours.
NEXT EVENT - We will be looking at 'Emotional Regulation'.
Does your child struggle to manage their emotions? Would you benefit from strategies to support this?
We will be holding a Coffee Morning in school with Elli, on Wednesday 20th May at 9.10am to explore this topic further and give some practical strategies to support you and your children.
If you would like any more information about support that Elli could offer, please email the school office or speak with Mrs Charlesworth or Miss Mitchell. Please see the attached flier for information. We look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on your parenting journey.'
NSPCC Assembly
Next week, children in Year 1 and Year 2 will be taking part in a special assembly delivered by the NSPCC.
During the assembly, the children will learn about the importance of keeping themselves safe at home, at school, and online. They will explore the idea that they have the right to speak out if something worries them and will be introduced to the concept of ‘safe adults’, trusted people they can talk to if they feel unsafe or concerned.
The children will also be made aware of Childline as a source of additional help and support, including how they can access it if needed.
If you would like to view the assembly in advance, you can do so using the following link:

Parking
Can I please send another reminder to all parents who drive to be conscious of where you park and pull up to drop and pick up your children.
An increasing number of parents are parking on the double yellow lines or right in front of the NO PARKING signs that are outside all the school gates.
The signs are there to keep all our children safe as well as trying to prevent a serious accident.
We did have had a serious incident in the past where a child was hit by a car because cars where not parked in the designated parking spaces and we do not want this to happen again.
I am aware of the problems with the lack of parking around the school and have written to the council many times for a solution but none has been found as yet.
It is our duty to ensure our children and other members of the public are not put at risk when the school is open and during drop off and pick up times.
Please think about where you park your car and if it is a safe place to drop your child off.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Class photographs
On the 23rd April we have our class photographs.
Please ensure you child is wearing the correct uniform.
No earrings and all hair bands etc must be blue or white.
As part of the uniform policy all weaves and extensions must also be a natural colour for school.
Internet Safety
Croydon Wellbeing services are coming to school to run an Internet Safety meeting for parents on Tuesday 28th April.
Time & location to be confirmed.
Please come along to ensure you are equipped with all the knowledge to keep your child safe online.
Technologies are moving at such an alarming rate that we need to know what our children are accessing and looking at online. It is also our duty to keep them safe.
As part of our Computing Curriculum we teach the children how to keep themselves safe on line but we need to ensure we are constantly reminding them and be aware of what they are doing on line.
Golden Table
Today I had the absolute pleasure of sitting on the Golden Table with six of our children at lunchtime. It was such an enjoyable experience. The children demonstrated impeccable manners throughout – saying “please” and “thank you,” using their cutlery beautifully and engaging in such polite, thoughtful conversation.
The children who joined me this week were:
Aisha – in St Andrew
Bilal – in St George
Joey -in St Bernadette
Aiden – in St Therese
Ryan – in St Martin
Priya – in St Francis
They were a credit to themselves and to our school. It was lovely to spend time with them and see first-hand the kindness, respect and consideration they show every day. Well done to each of them for setting such a wonderful example.
Wednesday Word
Jesus
A word from the Saints
“What really matters in life is that we are loved by Jesus, and that we love him in return.”
St John Paul II
“ We must not fail to help our neighbours, because in them we serve Jesus.”
St Rose of Lima
Dear Lord Jesus
We thank you for always being there for us. Help us to recognise you as we journey through life together
Amen
